The 2020-21 staffing plan and budget framework were reviewed by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its March 3 meeting. Both proposals will be voted upon at the March 17 meeting.
The staffing plan includes a request for an additional 5.29 FTE of certified staff positions and an additional 2.5 FTE of non-certified staff for 2020-21. The certified staff positions include an additional fifth grade teacher at Taft, an elementary social worker, 1.5 FTE for Special Education positions and 1.79 FTE in additional grades 6-12 staffing. The non-certfied staff positions include an additional 1.5 FTE for sign interpreters and a District Supervisor of Operations.
The budget framework is the first look at the 2020-21 budget and is dependent on unknown factors such as state funding and District enrollment. The biggest increase is in capital maintenance as $5 million that had previously been used to fund a retirement obligation will now be re-allocated to facilities since the retirement benefits are fully funded. There is also an increase in salaries and stipends as well as an increase in curriculum materials for Project Lead the Way, IncubatorEDU, hydroponic equipment and musical instrument repair.
The Board discussed the upcoming referendum and administration presented a document refuting an alternate proposal being distributed in the community. The Board also approved Board policies regarding threats of violence, school safety and child abuse and neglect. The hire of BJ Huntsiger as an educational assistant at Roosevelt was approved as well. The inductees chosen by the Hall of Fame committee for induction in 2020 were approved. Dr. Gary Losse, Todd Patterson, Vern Wollerman, Marti Wronski and Robert Yablon will be inducted on September 19.
Director of Pupil Services Tim Gantz provided an update on the District's plan with the coronavirus and an email that was sent to families earlier in the day.
