The Neenah Joint School District Board of Education officially approved the purchase of 222.82 acres of land in the Town of Neenah at its Feb. 18 meeting.
The land will be the site of a new Neenah High School with the passing of a referendum on April 7. Even if the referendum does not pass, the District will purchase the property. Closing will be set in June.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Pfeiffer addressed the process for annexation to the Village of Fox Crossing. She noted that the landowners plan to file the petition for annexation closer to the closing date. The Board also reviewed over 600 pages of environmental tests done on the property. All of the tests came back favorable for building a school on the site.
The Board engaged in a discussion about what they are hearing about the referendum question and the process of informing the community about what is being proposed. They had positive responses about the format of the first informational session on Feb. 17.
Communications manager Jim Strick shared profiles of each of the five inductees to the District Hall of Fame on Sept. 19. The Board will vote to formally approve the induction class at its next meeting on March 3.
