The course, additions, deletions and revisions (CADR) for the 2020-21 school year were approved by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its Nov. 19 meeting with a change to the original community service requirement proposal.
After discussion at the previous Board meeting, the community service component was changed from a 35-hour requirement for graduation to a credit-bearing opportunity. Students will be awarded 0.5 credits for completing 80 hours of community service in their four years, beginning with the class of 2021. The other primary high school changes are adjusting grades 9 and 11 English courses and changing all grade 9 science courses to physics only. Those changes also affect the advanced course offerings for grade 8 at Shattuck.
The Board received a proposal for the 2020 summer school program and approved Board policies for facility security, volunteers and school visitors. A December 11 retirement date was approved for Patti Neubauer in the high school attendance office. End-of-school-year retirements were approved for administrative assistants Shirley Joch at District office and Kim Swanson at Hoover.
Several celebrations were held during the District Administrator’s report. The state runner-up boys soccer team was honored along with the world language department for winning the Donna Clementi Award from the Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers. High school teacher Deb Garbe was recognized for winning the American Culinary Federation-Fox Valley Chapter Educator of the Year award.
The next regular Board meeting is set for Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. A special meeting to review the recent community survey will be held on Nov. 26 at 6 p.m.
