Celebrations of staff and student achivements as well as an election of officers consumed the majority of the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education meeting on May 7.
The Board honored teachers Chad and Jennifer Oeftger with the Passion for Excellence Award for their work with the District’s special education and Special Olympics programs. The award is the highest honor presented by the Board of Education and the Oeftgers were just the second recipient in the past six years.
Neenah High School juniors Quinn Parker and Alex Lee were honored for their perfect ACT scores and senior Jackson Vendola, who had a perfect ACT score last year, offered an update of his future plans. High school seniors Brooklyn Lenz and Joe Schachtner were honored as recipients of the Board of Education scholarship and senior automotive students Brandon Patschke and Eli Goethel were recognized for their third place finish in the UTI Top Tech challenge.
In Board elections, Michelle Swardenski was re-elected as president and Betsy Ellenberger will remain as clerk. Brian Epley was selected as vice president, Lauri Asbury was elected to the treasurer position and Diane Haug will serve as secretary.
In action items, certified staff contracts were renewed for the 2019-20 school year and administrator contracts were extended through the 2020-21 school year. Hires were approved for Abigail Rottier as a teacher at Coolidge, Kyle Falk as a high school teacher and Luke Diedrich for an operations position at Taft. End-of-school year resignations were approved for Spring Road teacher Kody Kellner and Coolidge/Lakeview educational assistant Cori Derfus.
The Board also approved policies related to Board members’ use of email and its status as a public record.
Discussion was also held in regards to potential surveys to gather information from staff, families and community. They also discussed the District Administrator evaluation process in preparation for the 2019-20 school year.
The next regular meeting is set for May 21.
