The Course, Additions, Deletions and Revisions (CADR) for middle and high school courses for 2018-19 were approved by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its Dec. 5 meeting.
The main change from the original proposal was the deletion of the proposed Active Lifestyles 3 course at the high school that would have allowed students to bypass the swimming portion of the course. Practices are currently in place to waive either all or part of each course should medical concerns or other extenuating circumstances exist which would make it extremely difficult for a student to meet this requirement. A note communicating this practice has been added to each course description in order to provide additional clarity to our families. The new proposal was passed unanimously by the Board.
The hire of Rachele Carney as a speech and language pathologist at Washington was approved. The retirement of Coolidge teacher Karen Stilp was approved, effective June 4. The Board also approved the hire of James Macy as a backup Independent Hearing Officer (IHO) in the event the primary IHO is not available.
The Board heard a presentation on summer school proposals for 2018. The main change will be the addition of an all-day program with transportation to the site for those students recommended for summer school. Students from Spring Road will also be bussed to another location due to a proposed parking lot renovation next summer. Much of the Board discussion centered around ways to offer lunch and incentivize students to take summer courses. The proposal will be voted upon at the next meeting on Dec. 19.
