An entrepreneurial program for high school students called INCubatoredu was among the items approved by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its Jan. 10 meeting.
Neenah is believed to be the first District in the state to add the year-long INCubatoredu program, which includes fully developed curriculum from product/service ideation to project execution, community partnerships through volunteer mentors who advise student teams and coaches who present subject matter lessons. Additionally, there is a culminating experience with each team pitching their product/service to a community-based panel for funding consideration.
In other action, the Board approved changes to the four-year-old kindergarten boundary map with the current class from Taft being hosted at Washington in 2017-18. Students will also be assigned to a site based on their childcare site rather than their home address. Another change pushes the start time for the morning session at Washington and A Child’s Imagination back 10 minutes to 8:30 a.m.
The Board also made its annual January approval of open enrollment availability for the upcoming school year based on class sizes and space.
Three new hires were approved by the Board. Sara Moore will fill the District wellness coordinator position, Paul Ibisch was added to the operations staff at the high school and Eulalie Leiton was named an educational assistant at Tullar. End-of-year resignations or retirements were approved for Nancy Dombeck at Clayton, Tim Robertson at Roosevelt/Alliance and Patricia Davis at Tullar.
The Board read a proclamation from the Department of Public Instruction honoring the District’s crossing guards.
The individuals who filed candidacy for the spring election were announced as six individuals will vie for three seats. Those running on the April 4 ballot are incumbents Scott Thompson, Margaret Murphy and Michelle Swardenski as well as challengers Peter Kaul, Marcelo Garcia and Tom Hanby.
