An insurance plan with Wisconsin Physicians Service (WPS) that included continuation of the Humana Vitality program was approved by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its Oct. 18 meeting.
Much of the discussion regarding the insurance plan centered around the continuation of the Humana Vitality program. Several Board members were concerned about the costs of the program, but agreed to maintain it for the upcoming year and asked for administration to continue exploring other options for 2018. Open enrollment meetings for employees will begin on Nov. 1 to provide more information and begin registration with WPS.
The Board also approved the 2016-17 school budget for the amount of $86.9 million. The balanced budget includes a significant $0.52 decrease in the District’s mill rate that already was the lowest in the Fox Valley. The mill rate dropped to $8.05 per $1,000 of property value.
The policy of animals on District property was approved after discussion by the Board for the third time. Adjustments were made to the previous recommendation primarily to further define wild animals.
The Board heard a report from actuarial firm Milliman on the best options to fund its Other Post Employment Benefits to current and future retirees. The firm presented several funding plan options to complete all District payments in order to fully fund all of the OPEB benefits, including stipends and medical and life insurance benefits.
The annual summer school report was also presented to the Board, reviewing enrollments and financial statements from the past year.
The next meeting is set for Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.
