Presentations on a proposed insurance plan for 2017 and a second draft of the 2016-17 budget consumed the majority of the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education meeting on Oct. 4.
Director of Business Services Andrew Thorson gave a presentation on the administration’s insurance proposal that includes moving to WPS, increasing the deductible, adding a co-insurance with a greater out-of-pocket maximum and keeping the Humana Vitality program. The plan has three tiers with an HMO, core plan and buy-up plan. The HMO plan will provide a reduction in monthly premiums for employees.
A lengthy discussion ensued that included a representative from the District’s insurance broker, Willis. A vote will take place at the next meeting on Oct. 18. The Board asked for more information about potentially changing the co-insurance from 80 percent to 90 percent and embedding an individual deductible into the family plan deductible.
The proposed budget was a balanced budget, though the numbers presented are still an estimate since state aid figures will not be released until Oct. 14. The District will hold a budget hearing prior to the next Board meeting on Oct. 18.
The resignation of high school night shift operations supervisor Robert Bergin was approved, effective Oct. 9. The retirement of Shattuck computer help desk technician Betty Proces was also approved, effective June 30, 2017.
A group of four-year-old kindergarten students opened the meeting by singing a song for the Board members as part of Wisconsin School Boards Appreciation Week.
