The Neenah Joint School District Board of Education heard reports on the biannual Youth Risk Behavior Survey and the summer maintenance projects to headline its November 1 meeting.
District Mental Health Coordinator Dr. Mike Altekruse and high school guidance counselor Christine Christensen shared essential information from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey and programs being done throughout the District to assist students.
District Director of Facilities/Engineer Adam Krieger provided an update on summer maintenance projects with photos and cost details. The update included a number of projects that were funded primarily through booster clubs or other funding, including the Health and Wellness Center, Washington Head Start facility, Spring Road walking track and high school football field press box.
In action items, the Board made its annual approval of the District At-Risk Plan for the 2016-17 school year. The retirement of Tullar Administrative Assistant Kim Novak, effective June 30, 2017, was also approved. The Board approved another portion of its District policy manual as it moves closer to completing its entire policy review.
The Board also discussed a proposal from Dr. Pfeiffer to allow Board members and eligible family members to use the Health and Wellness Center following the spring elections in May 2017. Several Board members apprecated the offer, but also expressed hesitation since they would lose the opportunity to vote on major decisions regarding the facility. A vote will likely be taken at the next meeting on November 15.
The only item presented in open forum was a question about the status of Project Lead the Way Launch program in the elementary level. Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Susan Hull addressed the question and indicated that each school has an teacher going through training this year with full implementation prepared for 2018-19.
