Parents and community members who work with children on the autism spectrum can learn from an expert in the field at a presentation on Feb. 19 in Neenah.
Jen Townsend, an educational consultant and coordinator for the Cooperative Educational Service Agency #1, will give a community presentation about visual supports and instructional strategies for students with autism at the Bridgewood Resort Conference Center in Neenah.
The event is hosted by the Neenah Joint School District as part of a mini-grant the district received last summer. Townsend will speak to school district faculty and staff at 2 p.m. and give a community presentation at 6 p.m. Both events will last about 90 minutes and are free and open to the public.
Townsend has worked for the past 15 years in helping school districts build capacity for educating students with autism spectrum disorder. Her lecture is intended for parents, family members, teachers, coaches, community groups and church workers to learn and apply within their daily routines in working with children on the autism spectrum.
Townsend has a Master’s Degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University and received a postgraduate certification in Autism Spectrum Disorder from Johns Hopkins. She holds a special education licensure in Wisconsin and Maryland and has extensive certifications in methodologies used to promote success for individuals with social learning differences.
A member of the Autism Society and the Council for Exceptional Children, Townsend is an adjunct faculty member at Carroll University in Waukesha and her work is shared throughout the state on collaborative webinars with the Department of Public Instruction. She has presented at numerous national professional conferences.
