Hoover and Spring Road Elementary Schools in Neenah have been recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction with Gold Wisconsin School Health Awards.
Only 22 schools from across the state received the honor and only 11 earned the Gold recognition. The award is in its second year and Hoover also received the honor last year.
The award signifies a commitment to providing students with the knowledge and skills to make healthy decisions that will contribute to their academic success. The goal is to motivate and empower Wisconsin schools as they create and maintain healthy school environments. The awards will be presented at the Wisconsin School Health Award Ceremony on Oct. 29 in Wisconsin Dells.
In addition, Hoover and Spring Road were among five Neenah elementary schools to receive Movin’ and Munchin’ grants by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to boost their health and wellness programs.
Hoover, Spring Road, Taft, Tullar and Wilson Elementary Schools all earned a $250 grant from the DPI to assist with the program. All five schools also earned the grant last year. It is the third straight year for Hoover and Spring Road.
Movin’ and Munchin’ takes an innovative approach to the problem of poor nutritional choices and lack of physical activity among school children. The program encourages schools to develop creative strategies to promote healthy eating and increased physical activity among students and their families.
