Final amendments to the 2019-20 budget were adopted by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its June 16 meeting.
The adjustments included $4 million less in expenses than originally budgeted due the COVID-19 pandemic. About $3.4 million was used to purchase 217 acres of land for the new Neenah High School, while the remaining amount was deposited into Fund 46 for future facilities projects. The other major modification was transferring funds from various accounts to finish paying the other post-employment benefits liability that the District began funding nine years ago.
In other action, the Board approved the student fees for 2020-21. The plan included no significant changes with the lone adjustment being an increase in parking permits for Memorial Park from $15 to $30 to cover the District’s rental fee. The legal services contracts were also renewed with four different firms.
The Board approved Nicole Kiplin as the new principal at Clayton. They also approved hires for KarieAnn Zeinert as a third grade teacher at Roosevelt, Connor Martin as a high school English teacher, William Krautkramer as a social studies teacher at Horace Mann, Misty Dorton as the administrative assistant at Hoover and Misty Bentz as a cross categorical and health aide at Taft. A resignation was acknowledged for Shattuck teacher Doug Beattie and a leave of absence was approved for Washington educational assistant Amanda Fleege for the 2020-21 school year.
Dr. Pfeiffer gave an update on the Rocket Re-entry plan and said that committees are continuing their work for determining a plan to open schools this fall. She also noted that the annexation of the new high school property to the Village of Fox Crossing was denied by the state, but will be re-submitted as the property owner had an error in the initial submission. Pfeiffer added that the post-referendum committees are continuing their work on designs for new construction as well.
The only open forum speaker was former Board member Christopher Kunz, who has been undergoing health issues and spoke to thank the Board members for their service to the community.
The next regular meeting is set for July 21 at 6 p.m.
