Elkin and Lindemann Named State Hockey Coaches of the Year
< Back
Neenah High School co-head boys hockey coaches Mike Elkin and Jeff Lindemann have been named the Bob Johnson state coaches of the year by the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association.
Elkin and Lindemann guided the Rockets to their best season in school history in 2015-16 with a 24-2-1 overall record, including a 25-game unbeaten streak. The team, which combines players from Neenah, Hortonville and Menasha High Schools, lost its opening game of the season to Appleton 6-1 and then reeled off a program-record 19 straight wins and remained unbeaten until dropping the WIAA sectional final to Appleton 6-4. The Rockets shared the Badgerland Conference regular season title and won the conference tournament in February. Elkin and Lindemann also earned conference coach of the year honors.
The co-coaches completed their second year coaching together and both previously coached individually in the program. In their two seasons together, they have established a program record for victories each year after posting a 19-5-1 mark in 2014-15.
Elkin was the program’s first head coach and held the position from 1995-2004, compiling a 112-67-13 record during the nine-year span. Lindemann was the head coach from 2007-14 and went 74-83-4 in his seven seasons.
The award marks the second state coach of the year award won by a Neenah coaching staf this school year as Kelly Van Handel was the state’s girls tennis coach of the year last fall.
