Having coordinated numerous activities to assist students at Shattuck Middle School, Dave and Dana Kohlmeyer have been selected as recipients of the Neenah Board of Education Passion for Excellence Award.
The award recognizes individuals or organizations who exemplify a commitment to excellence in our public schools. The award is in memory of former Board member John Hinkfuss, who served from 1987-2002. The recognition may reflect a single achievement or a lifetime of service.
The Kohlmeyers received their award in recognition of their work with Shattuck’s STRIVE program. Under their assistance, the program that teaches service and leadership inside and outside of school has grown from a once-a-year program to a once-a-month program. As influential members of the Neenah Rotary, they have helped organize Habitat for Humanity shed builds, diversity presentations and family dinner and events. They also help coordinate community partnerships with the YMCA, Valley VNA, Bergstrom-Mahler Museum and many others.
“We have come to see Dana and Dave as members of the Shattuck family because of their compassion and devotion to our kids,” said Shattuck principal Stephanie Phernetton. “They interact positively and treat our students with the utmost dignity and respect.”
The Kohlmeyers have displayed their passion despite not having their own children directly affected. They have two daughters, Kaitlin, 24, and Kendall, 18, who is a senior at Neenah High School this year.
The Passion for Excellence Award was first presented in 2006. The Kohlmeyers are the 11th recipient of the award since its inception.
