Another edition of the popular parenting seminar called “Parenting the Love and Logic Way” is coming to Neenah this spring. Counselors and psychologists in the Neenah Joint School District are helping parents tackle many of their toughest issues through this seminar.
This will be the third offering of the program in Neenah where parents learn skills such as how to motivate, respect, discipline and relate with their children. The program has been highly successful in the District. This spring, it will be held over six two-hour sessions at Hoover Elementary School. A night session will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursdays from Feb. 5-March 19 and a day session will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursdays from April 9-May 19.
Katie Kessen-Checki, a counselor at Hoover and Tullar Elementary Schools, helped bring the program to Neenah and has worked with a team of District counselors and psychologists, who are all trained to facilitate the program. Love and Logic is a nationally-based program that began in 1977 and has been used by schools and parents worldwide.
“Love and Logic is such a positive way to parent,” said Kessen-Checki, who also worked with the program for seven years in the Oshkosh Area School District. “I love it as a parent and a counselor. I use the skills all the time to build long-lasting relationships with my students and my son. My hope is to pass this knowledge on to other parents and staff within the District so they can feel the same way.”
Other Neenah staff members involved with the program are Renee Briester, Amanda Kilsdonk, Jamie Lasee and Felicia Torres. Each of them went through the training and facilitated previous events. Childcare for children ages 2-12 years old is provided at the sessions. The sessions are limited to 40 parents and costs just 10 dollars per person. Please contact Kessen-Checki at 751-6960 ext. 139 to register and for more information.
