A discussion about the process of returning to school in the fall of 2020 and the approval of a staff compensation plan that includes a 2.5 percent increase for all employees for the 2020-21 school year headlined the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education meeting on June 2.
Superintendent Mary Pfeiffer presented a re-entry framework that consists of a leadership team and five subcommittees comprised of staff members and local health officials that will make decisions in regards to the return to school this fall. The structure has been established to maximize collaboration and transparency across the District and throughout the greater community. The leadership team will oversee teams in five critical, systemic components: safety, policy, relationships, learning and community/culture. A document was presented that includes many questions and strategies that need to be resolved before school can resume.
In action items, the Board approved compensation plans that include a 2.5 percent salary increase for all District employees in 2020-21, totaling $875,220. There will be no stipend distributions, since state report cards will not be issued for 2019-20. This is the eighth consecutive year that District employees received a pool of dollars exceeding the consumer price index for performance-based salary increases.
The Board also approved the third year of a four-year contract with Chartwells as the District food service company. The 2019-20 audit and sustainability policy that were presented on May 19 were both approved. Hires were approved for Amy Keesler and Jessica Chippeaux as teachers at Roosevelt. Wilson teacher Adam Potratz was granted a one-year leave of absence and Cynthia Keberlein was elevated from a 0.5 to a 1.0 FTE contract.
The Board reviewed student fees for 2020-21. The document includes no significant changes with the lone adjustment being an increase in parking permits for Memorial Park from $15 to $30 to cover the District’s rental fee. The fees will be voted upon at the next meeting on June 16.
Assistant District Administrator Vicky Holt was recognized by the Board for her 31 years of service to the District. The meeting marked her final Board meeting as a District employee.
