Two longtime Neenah Joint School District Board of Education members and former Board Presidents were honored for their service to the District in their final meeting on April 21.
Scott Thompson, a 15-year veteran of the Board, and Michelle Swardenski, who served the past seven years, were both lauded by administrators and fellow Board members for their dedication to the job and service to the children of Neenah. Both chose not to seek re-election following the completion of their most recent term. Swardenski had been Board president for the past four years after Thompson led the Board for the previous 10 years.
In action items, the Board approved policies regarding video surveillance and electronic monitoring. Also, teaching hires were approved for Myra DeWet and Christian Schnell at the high school, Rebecca Kramer at Shattuck, Erika Schlack at Hoover and Alexandra Schultz at Coolidge. Non-certified staff hires included Tiffany Vicker as District payroll coordinator, Alissa Blair as Door 3 receptionist at the high school, Jessica Jacklin-Neerenberg at scheduler/data clerk at the high school, Rose Dunphy as an administrative assistant at the high school, Buffy Wied as administrative assistant at Spring Road and Morgan Seyfer as an educational assistant at Wilson.
Resignations were approved for Horace Mann teacher Josh Murnane, Coolidge teacher Tess Engelland and high school teacher Melanie Jackson, all effective June 5. A leave of absence was approved for Lakeview teacher Emily Lubinski.
Superintendent Mary Pfeiffer provided an update on the planning process for the approved referendum projects and also gave information related to the digital learning environment taking place in the District.
Board clerk Betsy Ellenberger read the official results of the referendum, which passed 8,817 to 7,456. She also read the results of the Board election that saw Deb Watry get re-elected along with new members Tom Hanby and Amy Morrissey. They will be seated to begin their three-year terms at the next meeting on May 5.
