The 2019-20 Employee Policy Manual as well as video scoreboards in Rocket Stadium and the Ron Einerson Fieldhouse were approved by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its June 4 meeting.
The primary change to the Employee Policy Manual requires employees to self-report any criminal activity within five calendar days. The language was developed in consistency with what other Districts have used around the state. The commitment for the Board to support the current Other Post Employments Benefits window was extended through June 30, 2021. The minimum starting salary for new employees was increased to $44,000 after discussion at the previous meeting about wanting to remain the highest in the area. Other edits clarify current practice and are not necessarily policy changes.
The video scoreboards cost about $385,000, but would be funded through the selling of advertisements that are expected to pay off the purchase in less than five years. Additional revenue would be used to improve athletic facilities.
The Board reviewed updates to the food service contract with Chartwells and also discussed student fees for 2019-20. There are no proposed changes to the student fee structure, but much of the discussion centered around the student parking sticker process at Neenah High School. Some Board members indicated they would like the process reviewed by high school administration rather than imposing new changes on their own. Both the food service contract and student fees will be voted upon at the next meeting on June 18.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Pfeiffer recognized high school teacher Emily Bennett for leading a voting campaign to receive as much as $75,000 for hydroponics units in all District schools. Neenah collected the most votes, but the final dollar amount will be determined by June 15.
Board members concluded the meeting by discussing collective commitments in regards to meeting decorum and time management. They also discussed how agendas are created, roles of Board members and president and meeting preparation.
