The Neenah Joint School District Board of Education has set four meetings during May and June pertaining to a potential 2020 referendum.
The meetings will be held on May 14, May 28, June 11 and June 20. All meetings will take place at 6 p.m. at the Administration Building at 410 S. Commercial St. Each of the meetings is expected to last two to three hours and will begin with a public open forum.
On May 14, the Board will discuss values and future planning for the District. Discussion will center around what Board members want the District to look like in 2025, 2030 and 2040, including the size and structure of the elementary schools. The Board will also establish a timeline for the referendum planning, including a commitment to dates for community feedback sessions.
On May 28, Director of Business Services Andrew Thorson will provide an overview of school funding for the Board and the public. Thorson will present details on such topics as state revenue limits, property tax rates, fund balance and the state funding formula. The Board will also discuss future planning for enrollment, facilities and property.
The meeting on June 11 will review the recent staff and parent surveys as well as community feedback related to the April 2019 referendum. Administration will introduce some potential plans for a 2020 referendum for Board discussion. There will also be an overview of student enrollment within the District boundaries by grade level. It will include a presentation of the District’s budget and facilities history as Thorson and superintendent Dr. Mary Pfeiffer will present how the District has spent its money over the past two decades. Pfeiffer and Thorson will also show details of creative ways the District has maximized its state funding to limit local property taxes in recent years.
