Neenah High School’s Arete Academy has been selected as the winner of Miron Construction’s “Be Green in ‘18” video contest.
The group received a $1,918 prize in honor of the year Miron was founded and its 100th anniversary. It will be used to assist in the academy’s goal of creating a hydroponics unit in each of the District’s nine elementary schools. Students will be taught about gardening, vegetables and hydroponics. The system uses a water-based, nutrient-rich solution instead of soil. Students in Debbie Burmeister’s class at Tullar Elementary will receive the unit purchased with the money from this grant.
The goal of the contest was to incentivize Wisconsin K-12 school staff, teachers and students to lead sustainable actions that will create measurable change in one or more of the three pillars of a green school: environmental impact, health and wellness and environmental and sustainability literacy.
The Arete Academy is a unique project-based learning curriculum consisting of about 100 freshmen and sophomores that incorporates all four core learning areas.
