Neenah Equestrian Team Wins First State Championship
< Back
Neenah High School's equestrian team won its first Wisconsin Interscholastic Horsemanship Association state championship this fall in Madison.
The team was the best among the 15 Class C teams from across the state. Class C teams consist of 3-5 participants and compete in a variety of disciplines and classes such as trail, showmanship in hand and equitation in huntseat, saddleseat, and western disciplines, western reining, speed events, ranch riding, driving and jumping.
Neenah High School has recognized its equestrian team since 2012 and the team was the Class A runner-up in 2014. Team members are juniors Julia Schneider, Caitlyn Sievert, sophomore Miranda Verrett, freshmen Ellison Popp and Ashlyn Jacobs and eighth-grader McKenah Biro. Coaches are Sara Popp and Nicole Brickner.
The state championship came down to the final event and Neenah held off Wisconsin Dells by three points for the championship. Cornell placed third. Neenah qualified for state based on its performance at the District 5 competition in Oshkosh in September.
