Senior Kayla Kraus and the Act II show choir welcomed back the Neenah Joint School District staff with a student-led convocation for the ninth straight year.
Act II opened and closed the event with performances that were choreographed throughout the summer. Junior Wesley Blashka also provided a solo performance of “I’ve Gotta Be Me.”
Kraus served as Master of Ceremonies and offered memories from her favorite teachers and her years in the District, beginning with her days at Tullar Elementary School. Kraus is the daughter of Jake and Lisa Kraus and is captain of the state’s top-ranked girls volleyball team. She participated in the Arete project-based learning academy her freshman and sophomore years.
Superintendent Dr. Mary Pfeiffer discussed the District’s two main goals for the year, which are continuing to improve the graduation rate and determine the future of the District’s facilities.
The event featured nearly $4,500 in door prizes for randomly-selected staff members provided by several Neenah businesses and District business partners. Included in the prizes were an autographed Mike McCarthy football, Packer tickets, contribution to a retirement account, wellness items and numerous gift cards to local businesses. Ten days off were also distributed where one of the District Administrators will sub for a teacher or non-certified staff member. The staff member may choose any day during the school year for the administrative sub.
Children of District staff members who attend school in Neenah also provided video “shout-outs” on accomplishments or things they love about their schools.
Staff members were clad in red and white and made contributions to local charities. Approximately 1,100 pounds of food was collected and donated to Ruth’s Pantry in the annual Bob Melzer Food Drive, while contributions of school supplies were collected for the Educator’s Closet. A wellness expo with various local organizations and businesses followed in the cafeteria. |
