The approval of numerous new staff members and presentations on instructional technology and special education headlined the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education meeting on July 24.
The Board also reviewed changes to the activities code of conduct and approved a contract for food service with Chartwells that calls for a previously agreed upon 2 percent increase in meal prices. The code of conduct changes will be voted upon at the August 7 meeting. The primary changes included an increase in penalties for first and second-time offenses with the opportunity for reduction through community service. The Board also asked for more reference to non-athletics activities in the code.
A total of 18 new staff hires were approved. Certified teaching hires were Kristin Curtis at the high school; Jadee Gavin and Valerie Hagen at Coolidge; Julie Guerin, Sarah Longoria and Sara Zajicek at Taft; Michael Jacobs at Hoover, Emily Kinney and Jessica Walsh at Wilson and Brooke Hatten at Horace Mann and the high school. Valerie Spaulding and Amber Okray were hired as music teachers at multiple schools. Educational assistant hires were Lisa Clark at Taft, Emily DeValk at Spring Road, Jessica Miller at Clayton and Katie Weisbrod at Wilson. James Segal was hired in operations at Shattuck and Jessica Lehman has been named the District Wellness Coordinator.
Immediate resignations were approved for teachers Alyson Enders at Taft, Karen Hovie at Horace Mann, Amy Mettlach at the high school, Rhonda Rossing at Alliance and Brianna Wood at Coolidge. Non-certified staff resignations were approved for Carla McKerchie at the high school and Mary Louise Shandonay at Spring Road. An additional 3.2 FTE of special education positions was also approved to address increasing needs within the elementary special education program.
Director of Instructional Technology Matt Anderson and other members of the instructional technology staff gave an update on technology within the District that was well-received by the Board. Pupil Services Director Tim Gantz also provided an update on the special education program.
