The 2018-19 staffing proposal was adopted with changes by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its March 6 meeting.
The Board amended a previous proposal to add two Technology Coaches and four Library Media Educational Assistants, while cutting 2.5 Library Media Specialists. Instead, the Board opted to retain all of the Library Media Specialist positions and add two Library Media Educational Assistants and the two Technology coaches. Other staffing additions included a fifth grade teacher at Clayton, an elementary school counselor, a work-based learning educational assistant at the high school and a Transitional Learning Coordinator at Shattuck.
The Board made an expansion to the Family/Medical Leave policy. Spouses who are both employed by the District may each take 12 weeks of leave for the birth or placement of a child for adoption or foster care. Previously, the spouses were permitted to take a combined 12 weeks, which is consistent with federal and state Family/Medical Leave law.
In other action, the hire of Kyle Popp as an Associate Principal at Neenah High School and Shattuck Middle School was approved. The Board also approved hires for Amy Oostdik as a teacher at Alliance and speech/language teachers Craig Begalle at the high school and Maya Tuinstra at Horace Mann.
The Board recognized the fishing team for its recent Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association state championship. Student representative Rachel Miserlian was also lauded for winning a Community First Volunteer Award.
The next meeting is set for March 20 and will feature a review of standards-based grading practices.
