High school and middle school course, additions, deletions and revisions (CADR) for the 2018-19 school year were the main discussion points for the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its Nov. 21 meeting.
Much of the discussion centered around the addition of an Active Lifestyles 3 course in the physical education department. The course would be for students who have passed a swimming course comparable to level 4 of the American Red Cross swimming program and would not require any time in the pool, providing another option for students than Active Lifestyles 1 or 2 where swimming is a requirement. Numerous people spoke in open forum all in opposition to the change. The entire CADR proposal will be voted upon at the next meeting on Dec. 5.
In action items, the Board approved the renewal of the Alliance Charter Elementary School for five years from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2024. The Board also adopted policies related to Board-Superintendent relations, physical examinations for new hires, employee fitness for duty and commemoration of school facilities. In personnel changes, the Board approved a leave of absence for Horace Mann teacher Chris Wilharm and the hire of Christine Boe as wellness coordinator. Retirements for high school teacher Sue McCarthy and middle school teacher Cynthia Riha were approved, effective June 4, 2018.
The Board honored the girls swimming and diving team on its all-time best sixth place finish at the state meet and diver Av Osero on her second consecutive state diving title. Cross country runner Matt Meinke was also honored for his fourth place finish at the state meet.
