Osero Takes Diving Title as Rockets Place Sixth at State

Neenah High School sophomore Av Osero successfully defended her individual state diving championship and Neenah posted its highest finish ever at the state swimming and diving meet Saturday in Madison.
Osero amassed a score of 511.50 to edge Racine Park's McKenzie Sanchez, who totaled 494.45 points. Sanchez actually held a slight lead over Osero following both the preliminary and semifinal rounds before Osero prevailed in the last round of dives.
Osero is Neenah's fifth state girls' diving champion in the past six years. In addition to her win last year, Hazel Hertting won in 2013 and 2014 and Greysen Hertting was the 2012 champion.
As a team, Neenah posted its highest finish ever at sixth place overall. The Rockets totaled 119 points. Middleton won the meet with 313.50 points.
Isabel Cortina turned in Neenah's top individual swimming performances with a third place in the 500-yard freestyle and a sixth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. She also anchored the fourth place 200-yard freestyle relay with Claire Eisele, Gabby Mullally and Payton Hanselman. Cortina, Eisele, Mullally and Evelyn Lima were seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay and Mullally was ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
