Horace Mann Dedicates Community Blessing Box
< Back
Neenah community members will have the opportunity to get needed assistance and help others with the addition of a “Blessing Box” in front of Horace Mann Middle School.
The idea of teacher Joe Lewis, the Blessing Box is located in front of the main entrance of the school on Oak Street. It is filled with non-perishable food items or personal hygiene items. Community members are invited to drop off donations at the Horace Mann office, while those in need are encouraged to take what they need from the box. During the winter months, the box will likely contain gloves, mittens, scarves and hats. The slogan on the box reads, “take what you need, give what you can.”
The box was constructed by District carpenter Dean Olkowski and was dedicated with a ribbon cutting on Oct. 20. Horace Mann students and staff members have already brought it donations to help fill the box and students will be volunteering to inventory the items and keep the box stocked throughout the school year and the summer.
If the project proves successful, the District hopes to add boxes in front of other schools in the future.
