A collaborative program with the Menasha Joint School District for alternative schooling will extend to the middle school level following action by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its August 15 meeting.
The Board approved a one-year rolling contract with Menasha that includes purchase of a site on Midway Road in Menasha that can accommodate the additional students.
The Ad-Hoc Human Growth and Development committee presented its work from the past year on a proposed curriculum for comprehensive sexuality education. Board members discussed the proposal for over an hour and suggested several changes. Administration will consider the changes and bring the proposal back to the Board at a future meeting.
In action items, the Board adopted policies that included definitions and the process for Board officer selection. Hires were approved for Heather Hoffman as a kindergarten teacher at Hoover, Alexis Kust as a 4K teacher at Washington, Erin Nienas as a Spanish teacher at the high school and Horace Mann and Karen Falls-Steiner as a EBD teacher at Lakeview. Vanessa Brayton and Amanda Fleege were approved as Educational Assistants at Washington. Immediate resignations were accepted for high school teacher Tara Meinke, Hoover Literacy Coach Amy Monka, Horace Mann teacher Karyl Schnyder and Shattuck Educational Assistant Brian Horvat. Spring Road educational assistant Lisa Marker was approved for resignation, effective Sept. 10.
The Board denied a formal request from the family of former superintendent George Grigsby to name the high school natatorium in his honor. Dr. Grigsby’s daughter also made the request during open fourm.
High school staff members Tracy McClowry and Ann Hatch presented data and an update from the first full year of the Transitional Learning Center at the high school.
The next Board of Education meeting is set for Sept. 5.
