A variety of reports and proposals were reviewed by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its July 18 meeting.
The only primary action items involved personnel changes. Hires were approved for Tullar teacher Dawn Brenner, Spring Road teachers Stephanie Goodman and Joelle Maxfield, Taft teacher Karley Krawze, Hoover teacher Danielle Lisowe, high school teacher Andrea Peterson and cross categorical teacher Elizabeth Schneider. Resignations were approved for Hoover teacher Elise Bushweiler, Lakeview teacher Vicky Dougherty, Wilson teacher Andrew Garr, high school operations employee Jonathan Belling, Shattuck educational assistant Kendra Rudolph and Washington educational assistant Darlene Schilke. The lead teacher designation at the Downtown Campus was also changed from Kylie Sieck to Landon Lawson.
In other items, the Board reviewed the District’s Non-Discrimination Self-Assessment report. Much of the discussion centered around getting more students to apply for scholarships and obtaining more detail in regards to economically disadvantaged students participating in activities. The Board also reviewed the District’s academic standards for 2017-18, which are unchanged from the previous year.
A recommendation for Associated Trust to remain the provider for the District 403(b) and 457 retirement plans was also discussed. The District had a seven-person committee review 15 bids for proposal. The committee unanimously decided to recommend Associated Trust. The Board also reviewed a proposal to include middle school students in the Neenah-Menasha Alternative School. A new site needed to be found to accommodate the additional students and options were discussed in closed session. Both of these proposals will be voted upon at the next meeting on August 1.
The state runner-up boys tennis team was also honored for its success this past season. Head coach Tom Berven was also recognized for winning his 40th career conference title and operating the Neenah Parks and Recreating program for the past 50 summers.
