Student fees for the 2017-18 school year were approved by the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its June 6 meeting.
The Board also approved a contract with Chartwells to remain the food service provider for the District. The contract will be for the 2017-18 school year with the potential for up to four one-year renewals.
In the student fees discussion, some Board members expressed concern about charging the full price for the yearbook for students on free and reduced lunch. Consideration was given to asking administration to bring forward a new proposal, but a vote was taken and the fees passed as presented by a 5-4 vote.
In other action items, the Board approved the addition of two special education teaching positions due to an increase in special education sections for 2017-18. Hires were approved for Rebecca Godfroy as a kindergarten teacher at Tullar, Melissa Olson as a Spanish teacher at Horace Mann and the high school, Brian Schalliol as a technology teacher at Shattuck, Elizabeth Severson as a social studies teacher at the high school, Sara Trochinski as a math teacher at Shattuck, Nicholas Westphal as an elementary school psychologist, Dianne Zimmer as an elementary literacy coach and Jonathan Belling as an operations employee at the high school. The resignation of Coolidge teacher Jessica Bayer was approved.
The Board also heard a presentation from high school administrators. Extensive discussion ensued regarding ways to improve the graduation rate at the high school and ways to get more students involved in various activities.
The next meeting is set for June 20.
