- Freire's Learning Sequence is a strategy that Brazilian educator, Paulo Freire, developed when working with low-income learners. Freire developed this sequence to help students connect their reading to problems they have faced in their own lives. As it turns out, Freire's Learning Sequence is also a great tool for English Learners (ELs), as well.

Pupil Non-Discrimination Survey Responses Sought
|
A small team of District staff members recently completed an initial draft of a required self-assessment that addresses pupil non-discrimination and equality of educational opportunities. The same law that requires this self-assessment also requires that others be provided an opportunity to participate in this self-assessment process.
?
To that end, this is a voluntary survey and we are soliciting feedback from ?all District staff, parents, and even some of our students. This is your opportunity to participate and give us some feedback! Please click on this link to provide your feedback.
Survey feedback will be accepted through? May 5. Thank you to those of you who are willing to assist us in this learning process for the District!

Spring Play Set for April 27-30
|
Neenah High School’s spring drama event will feature a family-friendly production with four showings of James and the Giant Peach April 27-30 in Pickard Auditorium.
The 75-minute musical is based on the popular 1961 children’s novel by Roald Dahl. Shows will be April 27-29 at 7 p.m. each night and on April 30 at 2 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students (K-12) and senior citizens. NJSD staff receive one free ticket by showing their staff ID pass. Tickets are available at the door one hour before the show. They are also available online at rocketplayers.com (service charge applies). Seating will be on the stage, so there is limited seating available.
The plot is based on a young English orphan boy who enters a gigantic, magical peach, and has a wild and surreal cross-world adventure with seven magically-altered garden bugs he meets. They set off on a journey to escape from James' two mean and cruel aunts.

If you need assistance, put in a help desk ticket and Bryan VonDeylen will help you.

Student Showcase
|
** The Student Showcase is a new weekly feature in the Rocket Roundup, showcasing some of the unique technology projects students are doing around the District.
Fourth grade students at Wilson created an iMovie group presentation based on their Revolutionary War informational text pieces. The students were grouped by the content of their writing. This was their first formal iMovie project. The objectives were: to work cooperatively, use curriculum vocabulary and create informational presentations that taught their audience the basic understanding of the Revolutionary War. Click here to see the student showcase of this project!
In the elementary school, iMovie is available on Self Service on student iPads. It's an easy to use tool that fosters the 4 Cs of technology: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity! Contact your tech coach if you'd like a quick demo on this awesome tool!
