Homecoming Events Planned for Oct. 10-14
|
A full week of free family activities benefitting the Neenah High School Orbit will highlight the Neenah Joint School District Homecoming Week set for Oct. 10-14.
Besides the varsity football game, all events during the week are free to attend. Donation buckets will be passed with all money raised being donated to the Orbit.
The week begins on Mon., Oct. 10 with a family drive-in movie in the main parking lot in front of the high school at 7 p.m. The movie will be “Toy Story” and will be shown on the side of Pickard Auditorium. In addition to monetary donations, some canned goods, clothing and personal hygiene items will also be accepted at the movie.
A Parent’s Night Out event is slated for Thurs., Oct. 13 from 4:30-7 p.m. Children from grades kindergarten through fifth grade may be dropped off at the high school. Varsity athletics teams along with other student groups and members of the Neenah/Menasha fire department will lead the children in a fun night of games and activities while parents enjoy a night away.
The annual homecoming parade is set for Fri., Oct. 14 beginning at 5 p.m. at City Pool on Park Ave. The parade will head west on Wisconsin Ave. to Church St. An indoor alumni tailgate party will follow at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby near the Neenah High School cafeteria with food and beverages for sale. The annual homecoming football game kicks off at 7 p.m. against Oshkosh West. The marching band will perform in the parade and at halftime of the game.
Other events during the week include a “Fifth Quarter” event on Tues., Oct. 11 for Neenah High School students at the Memorial Park pavilion off Apple Blossom Drive from 6:30-9 p.m. The event is sponsored by National Honor Society and will feature a luau/Hawaiian theme. On Wed., Oct. 12, female students and staff members take the football field in the annual PowderPuff football game at 6 p.m. in Rocket Stadium.

Bicycle in the 2016 Homecoming Parade
|
Join NJSD staff, students and community members by bicycling in the annual homecoming parade on Friday, October 14. This slow ride promotes and healthy activity in our community. Groups and teams who already have plans for the parade can opt to ride their bikes as well. Meet at city pool at 4:30 p.m. and the parade starts at 5 p.m.

Flu Shots Now Available at Wellness Center
|
NJSD staff and family members may get free flu shots at the District Health and Wellness Center. Flu shots are available by setting up an appointment at 844-616-3556. Additional time frames have also been established where staff members can make flu shot appointments: October 12 from 7-9 a.m. and October 20 from 3-5 p.m. Those who are not on the District insurance plan will need to submit paperwork for reimbursement from their insurance that will be provided at the time of service. Health and Wellness Center Updates
|
The NJSD Health and Wellness Center has been open for about a month. The Center is averaging about three visits per day with a high of 10 visits in a single day. NJSD employees and their families are encouraged to use the Health and Wellness Center to lower their own health care costs as well as the overall insurance rates for all District employees.
For those who have already met their deductible, please bring proof that your deductible is met when coming for your appointment. Also, the fax number for outside orders is 920-751-4802 and a chart with lab pricing is available by clicking here.

EP and PDP Support Group Meeting on Oct. 13
|
The EP/PDP District Support Group is a newly formed group designed to aid anyone who falls under PI-34 licensure requirements and is currently working on or completing a PDP. This group is also designed for any staff members who would like guidance or time working through their EP for the year. The purpose of the group is to provide time to collaborate and to supply resources to assist in the process.
Anyone who is completing either an initial or professional PDP, or working on their EP, who would like some guidance should attend the meeting.

Educational Foundation of Neenah Grant Requests Due
|
The first meeting of the Educational Foundation of Neenah (EFN) for the school year will take place on Thursday, October 13, at noon in the Board room of the administration building. Grant requests are due to Diane Haug no later than Wednesday, October 5.

Helping Hands Craft Fair Seeking Volunteers
|
The Helping Hands Craft Fair is seeking for volunteers to fill a variety of different jobs for its event on Saturday, November 5. There are different positions for every time of day and type of desired job. Please consider assisting with this annual event where all proceeds support our needy NJSD families during the holiday season. Click here to view available positions and sign up.
The fair will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Ron Einerson Fieldhouse at Neenah High School. There is a $2 admission fee.

Student Assistance Program Seeks Members
|
In an effort to promote a healthy school environment, the Student Assistance Program works in several ways. It not only provides a prevention element by educating students to make good decisions about the use of alcohol and drug abuse but also provides early identification and intervention with students having chemical abuse or misuse problems or concerns. If you are interested in joining the District SAP Team, and getting involved in AODA intervention and prevention throughout the District, or in your own building, please contact Chris Christensen at cchristensen@www.neenah.k12.wi.us.

AODA Mini-Grants Available to Students
|
DPI offers up to $1000.00 in grant money to students interested in developing a project focusing on AODA and/or its relationship to other youth risk behaviors such as violence, bullying, alcohol traffic safety, tobacco use, suicide and sexual risk behavior. Projects should be student-led, though it is recommended that adult advisors guide them through this process.
If you know a group of students who would be interested in writing a proposal for this grant, and are willing to help and advise them, please contact cchristensen@www.neenah.k12.wi.us. for more information about this awesome opportunity! Grant proposals are due by the end of the day on Friday, October 14.

Neenah Students Take Part in Nobel Conference
|
Neenah High School seniors Natalie Roh, Haafsah Fariduddin, Nicole Reitzner and Megan Last joined teacher Dianne Pacolt at the 52nd annual Nobel Conference at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. on Sept. 27-28. The conference provides a forum in which important scientific ideas and their social consequences can be presented and discussed.
This year's topic, “In Search of Economic Balance” involved discussions of economic theory and policy by some of the top economists in the world. Students discussed the myriad of challenges involved with the world economy, including war, refugee crises, climate change and skyrocketing demand for consumer goods.
