The following is a list of helpful information and behavior goals for Mr. Schneider's eighth grade Science class.
1. COURSE DESCRIPTION
The eighth grade science program uses a laboratory approach, with a strong problem solving base, to focus on different areas in the Earth and Space sciences. Reading, mathematics, and the use of technology, will be emphasized as ways to attain and present information and knowledge. Finally, organized field experiences will also be part of the course.

4. BEHAVIOR GOALS:
A. Respect the people in class and the classroom itself. Treat others as you might wish to be treated.
B. Be responsible for your assignments and behavior in the class.
C. Practice good manners toward all classmates.
D. Follow safety procedures as taught in class during laboratory time.
E. Be on time to class.
F. Follow the policies and procedures as explained in the Student Handbook.
** Failure to comply with the behavior goals could result in a detention, referral, and/or a phone call to parents.
5. LABORATORY SAFETY:
Always follow instructions and practice laboratory safety when working in the lab. Not only are you responsible for yourself, but you are responsible for your classmates. Anyone who acts in an unsafe manner (i.e. puts themselves or others in danger) will not participate in the lab and may be subject to disciplinary action. Always wear your safety goggles when working in the lab. It's not just a rule, it's a law!
6. GRADING FORMAT:
Summative Assessments 80%
Formative Assessments 20%
*Many homework assignments are considered practice and will not count toward a student’s grade. They are, however, very important learning tools and are an integral part of understanding concepts. (High work completion usually leads to good test and quiz scores). Even though work completion and participation don’t count toward a letter grade, they are still very important.
Grades are then based on the following:
a. Total points weighted from each category earned/total points possible. This is the scale used to determine the letter grade:?
A= 90-100%
B= 80-89%
C= 70-79%
D= 60-69%
F= below
Absences: If you are absent the day that work was assigned, you have the number of days you were gone, plus one extra day to turn in the work. If you are present when a due date for an assignment, project, test, etc., is announced, and then miss class time, you are still responsible for completing the work on time.
