Wilson Elementary before the clean up! Lots of plants to be moved, removed and mulched.

Message from Mr. Hammerschmidt

Last week, a significant amount of time and energy was spent recognizing our wonderful staff.  Much of this, was because of parents.  It's easy becoming complacent in not saying thank you every time someone helps to volunteer here at Wilson, and it never should.  As a building, we have terrific parent support here at Wilson.  If there is a project, we have people willing to step up and help.  As a school community, we are all blessed to have involved parents at all capacities.  Thank you!!

I encourage you to find ways to get involved, whether here at school or even taking the extra 5 minutes a night working with your kid.

District Communication

The Neenah Joint School District is seeking new and better ways to inform and engage all members of the district community. With this goal in mind, we are inviting district parents and community members to take a survey regarding the district's communications efforts.   You can participate in the survey by going to http://www.NeenahSurvey.org, or visiting any of the district school offices to complete the paper version. The survey will be available from May 2nd through June 8th.  Data from the survey will be used to develop a communications plan for the district, and to better inform the community of district happenings.  If you have any questions, please contact the Donovan Group by phone at 888-352-1026, or by email at survey@donovan-group.com.

Wilson 2012-13 grade configuration

For the 2012-13 school year, Wilson elementary will continue to have all of it's sections of kindergarten.  We will use the computer lab as an additional classroom and utilize two mobile lap top carts.  This addition, along with all 5th graders being in a 1 to 1 ration with Ipads, really begins to move Wilson in a new direction with technology.

Doing the right thing

This past Monday, our students gathered in the gym to talk about "Doing the right thing".  Several staff talked about what "doing the right thing" looks like in the hallway, the classroom, recess and the lunchroom.  Teaching kids to learn from their choices is very important in their development.  As parents, we can encourage the same thing.  When our children make a poor choice, instead of getting upset we can ask them "are you doing the right thing?"  Help them make the right choice by teaching them.  If they continue making the wrong choice, we need to keep teaching.

Movin' and Munchin' program
Thanks to everyone that participated in our 1st Movin and Munchin competition.  Mrs Johnson's 4th graders won the classroom competition and Ms Huss won the teacher competition.

Student Success Team-Parent Involvement opportunities

Do you have a green thumb? Want to help beautify the school grounds? Please join our newly formed Beautification Committee on Friday, May 18 at 2:15 pm outside Mrs. Schmidt’s room. We will be removing “good” plants, covering the invasives and covering with mulch to prepare the ground for more gardening this summer. We need LOTS of newspaper to use to cover the invasives, so please bring some to school with you along with a shovel and gardening gloves if you have them. Hope to see you there!

Volunteers Needed for the Bike Rodeo on Friday, May 25. If you can help for all or a portion of the day, please email Gwen Sargeant at historygrove@yahoo.com.

Volunteers Needed for Field Day on Monday, June 4. This is a wild, wacky and WET event for our students to come out to play after lunch with various water stations around the playground. Although they get wet anyway, we won’t play if it is really cold or storming – a Rain Date is set for Tuesday, June 5. We need at least 30 volunteers to make this event successful. If you can help with set-up from 10 am – 12 or for the actual event from 12-2 (or both!), please contact Jolene Schneider at JSchneider@pbclaw.com.

Bakers and volunteers needed for our Election Day Bake Sale to be held on Tuesday, June 5 from 8 am to 6 pm. Please email Julie Last at jamalast@sbcglobal.net if you can send in baked goods or help staff the sale for a 2-hour shift on the 5th.
