Neenah Seniors Participate in Youth Apprenticeship Day at the State Capitol
< Back
Neenah High School seniors Alex Mootz and Irik Lloyd spent their day on Feb. 18 at the State Capitol in Madison speaking to legislators about their opportunities in the Youth Apprenticeship program.
About 30 students from across the state took part in the event, which included a three-hour timeframe to meet with legislators in their offices and share their experience and the impact it has had on them.
Youth Apprenticeship integrates school-based and work-based learning to instruct students in skills defined by Wisconsin industries. The students are simultaneously enrolled in academic classes to meet high school graduation requirements, in a youth apprenticeship related instruction class and employed by a participating employer under the supervision of a skilled mentor.
Mootz (pictured, top) is employed in IT support at Bemis in downtown Neenah, while Lloyd (pictured, below) works with Faith Technologies and has been offered a full-time adult apprenticeship as an electrician after graduation.

They are among six Neenah students currently involved in the Youth Apprenticeship program. The standard Youth Apprenticeship program takes place during the junior and senior year of high school and requires a minimum of 900 hours of work-based learning and four semesters of related classroom instruction.
