Neenah Schools Add Wellness Center

Neenah Joint School District staff members and their families will have the opportunity to have their medical needs addressed on-site with the addition of a Wellness Center at Shattuck Middle School.
The Wellness Center was approved by the Board of Education at its Feb. 4 meeting. It will be operated and staffed by Prevea Health with a nurse practitioner, medical assistant and physical therapist. Appointments and walk-ins will be accepted.
The greatest benefit for staff members will be financial as a diagnostic visit will result in a $25 flat fee. Physical therapy will cost $35 per visit. Additional costs may be added for lab tests, but most cost $50 or less. Preventative visits are free of charge. All charges may be paid from the employee’s Health Savings Account and applied to the employee’s deductible. In addition, usage of the Wellness Center may result in lower costs for Humana, the District’s insurance provider, and could provide lower insurance rates for District employees in the future.
“The Wellness Center is a win-win for our employees in that it is convenient option to help them remain healthy while also saving them money,” said Superintendent Dr. Mary Pfeiffer. “Employees are still encouraged to see their regular physician, but this just provides another option to save them time and money, while being treated by high-quality health care professionals.”
Among other things, Wellness Center staff will perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat acute illnesses and diagnose and manage chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. They can also prescribe medication, order and interpret diagnostic tests, provide prenatal care and family planning services, administer injections and perform procedures such as suturing and casting. The physician’s assistant is overseen by the medical director of Prevea’s on?site clinics. Prevea will enforce all patient privacy rules as it must by law.
An official opening date has not been determined, but the District is targeting a date in April 2016.
