Students in Neenah High School’s digital electronics classes teamed with representatives from Bemis Company, Inc. to learn career success strategies on how to get and keep a job in high-growth industries.
The collaboration was part of Bemis’ involvement with Junior Achievement’s new program. The program covers key topics such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. It also teaches strong soft skills, work priorities and insight on high-growth industries, while providing personal brand and job-hunting tools such as building resumes, cover letters, interviews and digital profiles.
The Neenah students met with Bemis employees in eight separate sessions. The sessions were followed by a mock interview where students brought their revised resume and cover letter and dressed accordingly. Five human resource employees from Bemis came to Neenah High School and conducted the mock interviews. Afterwards, they reflected with the students on how they performed in their interviews.
The sessions between the students and the Bemis employees were:
Session One: Get Hired - Critical Thinking and Creativity
Session Two: Get Hired - Communication and Conflict-Management Skills
Session Three: Get Hired - Collaboration and Creativity
Session Four: Know Your Work Priorities
Session Five: Know Who's Hiring
Session Six: Bemis Field Trip
Session Seven: Get Hired - Strong Soft Skills
Session Eight: Know Your Personal Brand HR
Session Nine: Mock Interviews
“As the need for STEM roles rise, we recognize the need to connect with students early,” said Jill Nielsen, Director of Talent at Bemis, Inc. “Meeting with the Junior Achievement students at Neenah High School was a great way to share the skills necessary for a successful career. By participating, we also shared career opportunities for students to consider as they continue on with their education.”
