Neenah High School senior Sarah Olson will have her artwork on display at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. after winning the Wisconsin 6th Congressional District Art Show in Fond du Lac.
Olson also received two complimentary round trip plane tickets from Southwest Airlines and is invited to attend a reception for all winning student artists from around the country on June 26 at Washington, D.C. She also received a $150 gift certificate from the Gallery and Frame Shop of Fond du Lac.
It marks the fourth consecutive year that a Neenah student has won the award and had artwork displayed at the Capitol. Rachel Rohe won last year, Chande Blurton was the 2012 winner and Ben Erickson won in 2011.
“We have some very talented students in Neenah and are so proud of all of our students who participated,” said Neenah art teacher and art department chair Brenda Mullard. “The judges told us the art in this year’s contest was the best ever, which is quite a compliment to our students.”
In addition, Blurton, a senior, received the “Merit Award” for third place this year. She received a $50 gift certificate from the Gallery and Frame Shop. All participants in the show received a family pass to the Paine Art Center and Gardens in Oshkosh.
