Four Neenah High School students represented the state’s Manufacturing and Engineering programs with a booth at last week’s 93rd annual Wisconsin Education Convention in Milwaukee.
The students, Jordan Altekruse, Hailey Branchford, Mitchell Harter and Alex Mootz, showed off activities from Neenah’s Project Lead the Way program. The convention attracts school board members, school superintendents and other school administrators from around the state to the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee. Neenah was one of eight districts statewide invited to display its innovative projects.
“This was a great opportunity for our students to show the rest of the state the exciting things happening within our Project Lead the Way program,” said Neenah superintendent Dr. Mary Pfeiffer, who attended the convention along with seven Neenah School Board members. “It was fun watching adults from across the state interact with our students on their individual projects.”
The Neenah students had a booth in the exhibit hall, which displayed projects from their computer integrated manufacturing class, including an automated transfer system and an automated guided vehicle. They also demonstrated the robot used during their VEX Robotics competitions. Visitors had the opportunity to test the robots and learn how they work.
“It was exciting getting feedback from people who had never heard of Project Lead the Way before and hearing their reactions when we engaged our VEX Competition Robot,” Branchford said. “We have access to so much technology. It was nice to be able to demonstrate and talk about our robots, programs, and machines and be surrounded by people who were so supportive and receptive of our program.”
