Students in the Neenah Joint School District once again performed well above the state average on ACT Tests during the 2012-13 school year with a 24.1 composite score.
It was the second straight year that Neenah students have averaged a 24.1, which easily surpasses the Wisconsin average of 22.1. Wisconsin's composite score was second nationally behind Minnesota's 23.0. The national average score was a 20.9.
In addition, Neenah had 344 graduates take the exam, which was 55 more than the previous year and its most over the past five years.
"As a district, we are very proud of the accomplishments of our students and we are thankful to have a talented and supportive staff who continues to maximize student learning potential," Superintendent Mary Pfeiffer said. “Our scores reflect the 'Passion for Excellence' that Neenah is all about.”
Neenah students particularly excelled in reading with a 24.7 score, which was significantly better than the state average of 22.3. Neenah’s English scores were also two points higher than the state average as Neenah student averaged a 23.5 score. In science, Neenah students averaged a 24.1 score, surpassing the state average of 22.2, and Neenah’s math score of 23.5 was above the state average of 22.0.
Neenah had 46 percent of its students meet the ACT benchmark for college readiness in English composition, algebra, social science and biology, compared to the state average of 33 percent.
One Neenah student scored a perfect 36 on the test and two others scored a 35.
