- The boys track and field team hosts an indoor meet and the annual wind symphony concert takes place on Tuesday to headline the upcoming week in Neenah High School Activities.

- ELL Weekly Tip
- The 5-3-1 summarizing technique is a quick and useful tool to assess students’ background knowledge or their level of understanding. Asking students to determine the most important concepts, facts and points is a valuable skill. Intermediate students can use their responses as a note taking device and the teacher can quickly check for understanding.

Professional Learning Day Signup Now Open
|
Registration for the March 24 Professional Learning Day opens on Wednesday, March 15. Use this link to Schoology and your district username and password to find registration materials and session descriptions:

NEW! NEW! NEW! Earn 35 points toward Go365 when attending your staff wellness session! All employees will now have the opportunity to gain 35 Go365 points for attending PLD wellness sessions. Be sure to sign your name on the Humana Go365 participant roster at the end of each session to verify your participation. The roster will be sent to Humana and points will be awarded within the next 30 days.
As a reminder, the main schedule for the March 24th PLD is listed below.
8-11 AM - Site-based professional learning
11-11:55 AM - Lunch and travel to NHS
Noon-2:55 PM - AVMR training (for 4K and special ed) - session #4
OR
Noon-12:55 PM - Technology
1:05-2:55 PM - Curriculum/Assessment/Instruction or Pupil Services professional learning
3:05-4 PM - Staff wellness
Additionally, some staff will be attending their coaching training in the morning and afternoon at Riverwalk Hotel. All staff previously trained in coaching will participate in site-based professional learning in the morning and then join the current coaching class at Riverwalk for the afternoon session.

EP/PDP District Support Group Meeting March 16
|
The EP/PDP District Support group will be having its next meeting on Thursday, March 16 from 3:45-5 p.m. in the Wilson Elementary library. This group is designed to assist anyone who falls under the PI-34 licensure requirements and is currently working on or completing a PDP. This group is also designed for any staff members who like guidance or time to work through their EP for the year.
Anyone who is completing an initial or professional PDP, or working on their EP, who would like some guidance is welcome to attend!

Elementary Homebound Teacher Sought
|
The District is currently seeking a homebound teacher who would work with an elementary student ?(great kid!) ?for approximately 6-8 hours a week. The hours are flexible depending on the teacher's availability? and what could be worked out with the family?. ? Any valid teaching license ?is acceptable.

Board of Education Candidate Forum March 22
|
The six candidates running for three positions on the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education will participate in a candidate forum on Wednesday, March 22 at 6 p.m. at the Neenah Public Library. The event will take place in the Shattuck Community Room and is presented by the League of Women Voters of Winnebago County and Fox Cities Advocates for Public Education. Peter Kaul, Marcelo Garcia, Scott Thompson, Tom Hanby, Margaret Murphy and Michelle Swardenski are the candidates on the April 4 ballot.

STEAM Saturday Coming April 8
|
Staff members working with students in grades K-5 are reminded to encourage their students to sign up for the inaugural STEAM Saturday on April 8. Parents were e-mailed a registration link last week. The event will be held in conjunction with Georgia-Pacific and takes place at Neenah High School. K-2 students and parents may attend from 8-10 a.m. and students in grades 3-5 may attend with parents from 10 a.m.-noon. Registration is due by March 25. Families with students in multiple grades may choose which session to attend together.

Honor Society Blood Drive Set for April 12
|
The Neenah High School National Honor Society and Community Blood Center will host a Blood Drive on Wednesday, April 12 from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Apollo Commons. Enter through Door 6. To schedule an appointment, please go to www.communityblood.org and enter sponsor code N024. Be sure to bring a photo ID, drink lots of water and eat a hearty meal.

Wellness Updates

* Are you looking for an easy way to gain 100 Go365 points? If you are already tracking your steps, you might as well join the March Madness Go365 Step challenge! This challenge runs from March 16-31 and has no minimum step requirement. Just keep doing what you're doing, and either create a team or join one already established in the Go365 portal!
* Please contact Sara Moore or Mary Shandonay if you are interested in joining the Healthy You Couch-to-5k training program. This eight-week program builds incrementally, through walk/run combos, and includes three workouts a week that range from 25-45 minutes. No experience is necessary and programs can be personalized. Your level of involvement with the group is completely up to you—there’s no pressure, only support!
* Check out the Go365 Compatibility Grid for any questions revolving fitness tracking apps or wearables.
* Signup is now open for the 2017 Soleburner Run on Saturday, May 13 at 9 a.m. at City Park in Appleton. The event is worth 250 Go365 points.
