The District's next Professional Learning Day (PLD) will be Friday, November 4, 2016. he main structure of the day is as follows:
8:00 AM - 11:00 AM Site professional development
11:00 AM - noon Lunch on your own and travel to NHS
12:05 PM - 1:00 PM Technology sessions
1:05 PM - 3:00 PM Curriculum/Pupil Services/Non-certifed staff* sessions
3:10 PM - 4:00 PM Staff wellness sessions
*Non-certified staff sessions include: medical training for all Building EAs, Spec Ed EAs, Lib Media Assistants, and 4K EAs; Business Office Training for all Administrative Assistants

Insurance Plan Information Available
|
Information about the 2017 NJSD insurance plan is now available on the District website. Please check out the Insurance Benefits homepage for information on the plans being offered by WPS. The benefits guidebook will be posted by Thursday, October 27. All of this information will be provided and questions may be asked at the upcoming open enrollment meetings. A full schedule of the meetings is listed below.

Open Enrollment meetings to signup for the new insurance plan will be held at the following locations and times. Employees are strongly encouraged to attend. This is your annual opportunity to make changes to your benefits package to ensure you and your family have the right coverage to meet your needs. Representatives from WPS and Willis will be available at each meeting to answer questions.

Personal Streaming Services in the Classroom
|
It is not okay to stream movies, TV programs or other content at NJSD through your personal subscription service including Netflix, Hulu, etc. If you do so, you are in violation of the user agreement you agreed to when you established your account. This is not a NJSD policy or decision, but a part of your agreement with the service.

Winter Sports Game Workers Needed
|
The winter sports season is starting soon and game workers are needed to supervise, time, score and announce at boys' and girls' basketball, hockey, wrestling, and boys' swimming events. The pay at this time is $11.40/hr. for supervisors and $12.75/hr. for timers, announcers, and scorers.
If you would like to work at a winter athletic event, please click here and fill out the sheet by checking the date(s) you can work and the position you prefer. Please return to Lisa Dohr at ldohr@www.neenah.k12.wi.us by Monday, Oct. 31. The final schedule of workers will be distributed after that date.

Fall Blood Drive Set for November 1
|
The Neenah High School National Honor Society and Community Blood Center will host the annual fall Blood Drive on Tuesday, November 1 from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Apollo Commons. Enter through Door 6. The Blood Drive will benefit the local Community Blood Center and is being held in honor of Alex Melchert, a 2016 Neenah graduate who was recently involved in a shooting in Ohio. During Alex's first three operations, he received over 40 pints of blood, which is equivalent to 40 donors. There will be a banner for donors to sign for him.

Helping Hands Craft Fair Seeking Volunteers
|
The Helping Hands Craft Fair is seeking for volunteers to fill a variety of different jobs for its event on Saturday, November 5. There are different positions for every time of day and type of desired job. Please consider assisting with this annual event where all proceeds support our needy NJSD families during the holiday season. Click here to view available positions and sign up.
The fair will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Ron Einerson Fieldhouse at Neenah High School. There is a $2 admission fee.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Clarification
|
To clarify the Youth Mental Health First Aid communication from previous weeks, the focus is on two groups of 6-12 staff:
1. Non-certified and/or support staff (it is ok if they need a sub - the grant will pay for their sub).
2. Certified staff who do not need a sub (counselors, admins, psychs, etc.)
Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings have been scheduled for November 10, and December 15. If you are interested in joining the more than 175 staff who have already attended this training, please contact Chris Christensen at cchristensen@www.neenah.k12.wi.us.

How to Earn Vitality Points at NJSD Fitness Centers:
To earn Vitality points at the Shattuck, Horace Mann, and NHS Fitness centers, check in is now automatic with the beacon. Follow the steps below...
VITALITY BEACON: ?Follow these steps to ensure an accurate sign in:
Walk into the fitness center for it to detect your phone. At NHS, the beacon (white space-like device) is on the wall by the sign in binder by the old multipurpose room/wresting entrance (by door 10). At Shattuck it's on the wall at the far right end of the room. At Mann it's near the ceiling in the middle of the room. At the pool it's in the office - fitness center sign in binder.
* Be sure your phone operating system is updated
* Turn Bluetooth On
* Go to Vitality app, then Settings. Turn Push Notifications on including locations (to be set to 'Always').
* Go to Vitality app then Settings. Turn Beacon? ?Check In on. Under Choose a Beacon - there should be one that it finds a beacon if you're near the fitness center. It will automatically pop up and award points automatically. You do not have to go into 'Participating Locations.'
* When you see the pop up after a few minutes, swipe or push a button to earn points, as it says on your phone.
Points should come through by the next day. ?Click here for instructions for iPhone and for Android users? for more information. If you don't see the pop up then it may already be in your notifications so please check there as well.

Wrestling Team Hosts Open House on November 3
|
The Neenah Wrestling Program is hosting an open house on Thursday, November 3 from 5:30-7 p.m. to showcase the new wrestling training facility. The new wrestling facility at Neenah High School includes new wrestling mats and wall pads, false sub floor, a 30-foot wall of champions, new record boards, door wraps, storage cabinets, surround system and a student study area.
Tables will be set-up at the open house for those interested in gaining information regarding our Youth, Middle or High School wrestling programs.
We welcome anyone in the Neenah or surrounding communities to stop in to see the new training facility and to find out more information regarding the Neenah Wrestling program.

NJSD Places Third in Fox Cities Marathon Challenge
|
The Neenah Joint School District placed third in the small/medium division of the Fox Cities Marathon Business Challenge from events held Sept. 16-18.
A total of 21 individuals registered as NJSD employees and competed in the 5K, marathon, half marathon or marathon relay events during the weekend. The awards are presented to the companies with the most participants in the events. Belmark, Inc. and Miron Construction were the only companies with more participants in the division.
This year's event was the 26th annual Fox Cities Marathon and all of the races concluded at Riverside Park in Neenah.
