Price and Risgaard Capture State Girls Tennis Doubles Title
< Back
Senior Christina Price and junior Kiki Risgaard rolled to Neenah's first WIAA state girls tennis doubles championship since 2002 with straight set victories in all five of their matches over the weekend in Madison. Price and Risgaard finished the season 27-1 and avenged their only loss of the year by beating Elise Gerard and Annabelle Crowley of Nicolet 6-3, 6-0 in the championship match. Price and Risgaard dropped a total of just 10 games in 10 sets played at the tournament.
The duo were Neenah's first individual state champions since Chelsey and Molly Casperson. Neenah is now tied for the most doubles championships in state tournament history as Price and Risgaard were the eighth Neenah tandem to capture a state title, matching Whitefish Bay's mark.
Risgaard placed third at state in singles in 2015, while Price placed seventh in doubles with Kendra Kappes. Price and Kappes were knocked out of the main draw with a quarterfinal loss to Gerard and Crowley.
The Rockets will defend their WIAA state team title this weekend when they compete at the team state tournament in Madison. Neenah faces Pulaski in the quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m.
