< Back
Three Neenah schools are among 85 schools nationwide to receive $1,000 grants from Action for Healthy Kids for initiatives that support schools in promoting health and wellness.
Horace Mann Middle School and Hoover and Spring Road Elementary Schools were selected for the “Game On” grants. Action for Healthy Kids provides funds for physical education equipment, indoor and outdoor recess, playgrounds and play space refurbishing, classroom energizers and brain breaks, walking and running clubs and before/after-school programs that help students achieve 30 minutes of physical activity per day in school and reach 60 minutes of physical activity per day.
Horace Mann and Spring Road were recently among 21 Wisconsin schools honored by the Alliance for a Healthy Generation with the Let’s Move! Active Schools national award, which is the nation’s top physical education and physical activity distinction for K-12 schools. All three schools were also selected gold award winners of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction School Health Awards.
Created in 2002, Action for Healthy Kids works with schools to fight the national epidemic of childhood obesity and poor health. Since its founding, Action for Healthy Kids and its 75-plus partner organizations have turned the spotlight on the childhood obesity crisis so it’s now widely acknowledged as a top priority by health and public health professionals, government leaders, school systems and the popular media -- galvanizing invaluable support from a wide range of constituencies.
