A review of the 2017 summer school proposal and 2017-18 course, additions, deletions and revisions (CADR) were presented to the Neenah Joint School District Board of Education at its Nov. 15 meeting. The Board will vote on both items at its next meeting on Dec. 6.
In the summer school proposal, the District will continue to provide a full offering of remedial and enrichment courses. The District will not continue its summer drivers’ education behind the wheel program. The Board discussed ways to continue to get more students involved in the summer program and also expressed concern about the different start dates for elementary and secondary programs.
The CADR changes added an additional foreign language option at Horace Mann and involved several areas at the high school. The high school changes included art, technology and engineering, wellness and world language. One change that garnered some discontent from the Board was changing the name of wellness education back to physical education.
In action items, the Board approved a $3 million line of credit to meet District expenses during its lean revenue period in December and January. Hires approved included Julie Buss as a health assistant at Hoover, Marie Luebke as a cross categorical teacher at Clayton, Carla McKerchie as an administrative assistant at the high school and Mitchell Meyer as a social studies teacher at Shattuck. The resignation of Lakeview Educational Assistant Jennifer Janssen and an extended leave of absence until Jan. 1 for high school counselor Emily Hennes were approved.
The Board adopted a proposal that would allow Board members access to the Health and Wellness Center by a 4-3 vote.
The state champion girls volleyball and state runner-up girls tennis teams were honored for their achievements this fall.
