Art students at Neenah High School partnered with students in the technology education department to create a unique display honoring our nation's veterans that was unveiled on Veterans Day.
The project includes sketches by the art students in pencil, graphite and charcoal of various military scenes. The sketches were etched onto aluminum plates by technology education students and placed in a shadow box display case in the high school hallway. The display is adorned with an American flag and flags of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Prisoners of War/Missing in Action.
Many of the photos were selected by students in history classes and represent wars from the Revolutionary War to the present time. Art students chose to draw photos that resonated with them. Some students drew pictures with personal touches in memory of a family member or other loved one. The shadow box is under a sign that reads: "Honoring Veterans Past and Present."
The display sits near the cafeteria just outside of Pickard Auditorium and the fieldhouse, making it easy for viewing for the public attending events at the high school.
The display has been two years in the making and was the idea of art teacher Lisa Dorschner. Technology education teacher Travis McDonough coordinated the etching of the metal plates. Costs for the project were procured through fundraising and Miron Construction donated time and materials for installing the display case. |
