Neenah was represented by 12 students at the Wisconsin School Music Association State Honors Music Project last week at the State Teachers Convention in Madison.
Over 3,500 students from across the state applied for a position in the state honors band, choir and jazz ensembles. The Neenah was represented in both the high school honors level for grades 10-12 and the middle level for grades 7-9. The high school ensembles performed at the Overture Center on State Street.
Performing with the high school ensembles were Jack Mulvey in band, John Payne in jazz and Kaley Camber, Kendall Kohlmeyer, Shannon Overesch and Belle Gallegos in orchestra. Participating in the middle level ensembles were Kayla McGinnis and Rebecca Rieckmann in band and Grace Hackinson, Nathan Heywood, Kaylee Jepson and Mindara Krueger-Olson in orchestra.
The Wisconsin State Honors Music Project offers talented youth the opportunity to rehearse and perform with nationally-known conductors in a professional setting. Middle Level State Honors students receive their music in August and meet for the first time the day before their fall performance. High School State Honors students sight-read their music at their June Summer Camp and also rehearse before the fall concerts.
Neenah High School teacher and music department chair Kristina Stingle accompanied the students to Madison and serves as the state chair of the High School Honors Music Project. |
